€2 Weekly Lotto – the Backbone of our Club Finances:
As the Weekly Update will be taking a break soon – we are taking this opportunity in the last one or two issues to once again promote our €2 Weekly lotto fundraising campaign. Don’t forget there are plenty of locations around town where you can purchase your €2 ticket (see list of places below) or why not make life really easy and do it all on-line.
The €2 Weekly lotto is an integral part of the Club Finances - it is an ongoing fundraising campaign which requires a huge amount of commitment from its dedicated committee – who have the whole operation down to a fine art. Total monies raised this year (2016), is €25,135 (up to week commencing 26thSeptember). Prize money paid out is exactly €10,000 (one jackpot win of €6,200 and €3,800 in weekly consolation prizes).
Like all dwellings in Kinsale and indeed around the country, Kinsale GAA Club has bills to pay – ESB, Water, Refuse Collection, any works/repairs required at the grounds on Bandon Road etc. The club also incurs other expenses, for example, when you see things like “this course is free to all coaches” or watch on as over 100 of our underage boys and girls get presented with their shiny new medals, when you see the Advertising Boards/Posters around the town promoting the club or a Fundraising Campaign, congratulating one of our teams; - these are just some examples of where the €2 weekly lotto comes into play. This on-going fundraiser is like the Weekly Wage of Kinsale GAA Club – keeping our day to day expenses in check, in a word keeping the club running. And even more crucial, when we fundraise for our Club Development Project – it ensures that all monies raised can go directly to the Club Development Finances.
With usual Fundraising Campaigns – there is the big push and hard work for a couple of weeks – but then the campaign ends. However with the €2 Weekly Lotto it’s an on-going campaign (the hint is in the title :-)! And so it requires huge dedication from those running it – John Maloney, Eoin O Neill, Joe Coughlan and Declan O Sullivan and David Coughlan who also give a hand every week. A sincere thank you must go to each and every one of these gentlemen for their continued efforts for Kinsale GAA Club.
So thank you all for buying your lotto tickets every week – you have raised an incredible €25,135 alone this year so far. Keep buying those tickets, the jackpot is €4,500 currently – wouldn’t that be ‘a nice tidy sum to win’ !!!

Club Family Morning
Sunday, 2nd October, the second day of “Fall”, to use an American expression – but one would have been forgiven for thinking it was the 2nd of July in the middle of summer!! Blue Skies, glorious sunshine, and heat to go with it – the Marquee was up, bales of straw set out around it , the pitches marked out, tables laden down with gorgeous cakes, buns, sandwiches, biscuits, sweets – the smell of freshly brewed coffee and tea, our National Flag raised high, as were the Kinsale Club Colours, 250+ adults and children thrown into the mix – Its End of Season Club Family Morning time!!!!
And if that wasn’t enough – also hanging around throughout the morning were Anthony Nash, Orla Finn and Ray Cummins!!! – Cork heros and legends one and all.
We were also joined on the morning by our local TD’s Ms Margaret Murphy O’Mahony, Fianna Fáil and Mr Jim Daly, Fine Gael who came along to experience first-hand the exceptional atmosphere and community spirit within Kinsale GAA Club and to witness the fantastic work being done by all our amazing coaches, committee members and volunteers throughout the entire club.
Huge thanks to all the parents and children for coming along to spend the morning with us. And for bringing along all those yummy treats – it was a fantastic ‘spread’ for everyone to enjoy.
There was a ‘Bucket Collection’ throughout the morning in aid of the Ciara O Brien Trust – a total of €405.31 was raised. Thank you so so much to everyone for supporting Ciara – it is greatly appreciated.
Here’s to 2017 and another great Season for Kinsale GAA Club.

Kinsale 2-9 St. Nick's 2-6.
Victory in the final league game of the year ensured that Kinsale retained division 3 status for 2017. Recent unlikely results plus a series of walkovers elsewhere meant that Kinsale had to avoid defeat to stay in
Kinsale started the game positively and took the lead through an early Gearoid Finn point. Further points followed from Gearoid Finn and Richard O'Sullivan to give Kinsale a 3 points to 1 lead. The Kinsale defence was well on top at this stage with Wayne O'Hea, Conor Lane and Michael O'Sullivan dominant in the full back line and this allowed the half back line of Gearoid O'Leary, Colm McCarthy and Mark Coughlan to get forward at will. Points followed from Alan Gould and Ricky O'Hanlon and, following a great run by Gearoid O'Leary, Richard O'Sullivan set up Ricky O'Hanlon for a well taken goal. St. Nick's responded with 2 points to leave Kinsale leading by 1-5 to 0-3 at half time.
Upon the resumption, Kinsale went further ahead with points from Derry O'Callaghan and David O'Leary following good work by Sean O'Brien and David Ward before he went off injured. When Gearoid Finn pointed a free it looked like Kinsale were going to coast home but St. Nick's got 2 points and this seemed to inspire them. Kinsale began to make some mistakes and allowed St. Nick's back into the game. Richard O'Sullivan steadied Kinsale with a point but two goals were conceded in quick succession and all of a sudden it was game on with the scores level at 1-9 to 2-6 with 3 minutes left. When the need was greatest, Goalkeeper Stephen O'Neill found Derry O'Callaghan with the kick out and he in turn passed to Richard O'Sullivan who made a great run through the St. Nick's defence before releasing David O'Keeffe who showed great composure to score a crucial goal from close range. Kinsale regained possession from the kick out and saw out the game comfortably.
This was the final game of the season and credit to all the players involved for getting the crucial victory.
Team: S O'Neill, W O'Hea, C Lane, M O'Sullivan, G O'Leary, C McCarthy, M Coughlan, D O'Callaghan, R O'Sullivan, S O'Brien, A Gould, D Ward, D O'Leary, R O'Hanlon, G Finn. Subs: D O'Keeffe, J O'Mahony.
Junior B Football League Semi-Final submitted by Brian Murphy
Kinsale came through a tough battle away to Crosshaven last Saturday to qualify for the League final.
Kinsale started sluggishly and Crosshaven stormed into a 3 point lead after 5 minutes. However Kieran and Kalen O Connor slowly started to get a hold of midfield, the rampaging wing back James Murphy scored Kinsale 1stpoint from play. A crucial goal by Eoin Irwin after being set up by Conor O Brien ensured Kinsale had a 4 point lead at half time. Crosshaven piled on the pressure after half time but could not beat Thomas Douglas who was superb in goal. The defense of Brian O Regan, Cian Quigley, Barry Wright, Niall O Donavan and Captain David O Keefe got on top and this laid the platform for Kinsale’s purple patch which saw points from Ricky O Hanlon, Jack Gould and Seamus Downey.
The score of the night however was from Eoin Irwin who cheekily rounded the goalie for his 2nd goal of the game. While Crosshaven answered with 3 points in a row the hard work of Nelius Fitzpatrick, James O Mahoney and Kevin Kelly ensured Crosshaven could not get the goal that they needed. The final score was Kinsale 2-12 Crosshaven 13 points.
Kinsale will play Carrigaline in the final on Sunday 16th of October – Time and Venue TBC.
Underage Boys – Please support our young players at their various upcoming fixtures – they are the future of the club!!

Football Tournament in St. Michaels, Blackrock
Kinsale fielded 2 teams with a mixture of under 11 & 10s. One team played St. Michaels in their first game and after going behind early on they fought back to win in the end with some great performances throughout the field. The other team played Ballincollig and again played some great football and it ended in a draw. The 2nd game was played against Ballincolligs other team with each Kinsale team playing one half each. Kinsale started slow and went behind to a full strength Ballincollig team and were behind at half time. The other Kinsale team took to the field for the 2nd half and fought back well before running out of steam with Ballincollig winning out in the end.
Ballincollig took the trophy home however our lads can be proud of their performances against one of the strongest towns in Cork (who’s senior team happen to be playing the county final next week, Baile an Cholaigh Abu…green blood runs deep).
Thanks again to the parents who travelled and to the under 10 players. Panel on the day Ronan, Oisin, Charlie, Conor B, Jonathan, Josh, Conor Fitz, David, Cathal, Max, Callum, Ted, Billy, Matthew & Ross with the under 10 players of Rory, Hugh, Senan, Michael, Noah, Dylan, Joe,

New TG4 Show:
I'm emailing from Red Pepper Productions in Dublin & we're currently in pre-production with a new TG4 Fashion series.
Would it be possible to circulate the information below amongst any of your Irish speaking players.
The show is called Gléasta chun Féasta. The premise of the show features a resident panel, who consist of one Fashion Stylist + one Designer. Each week they'll be joined by a 'Guest Designer' who could work in any creative field such as Photography, Jewellery, Painting, etc.
There will be one contestant (one female) on the show each week who is looking to be styled for a big event they've coming up - This could be a Bride to Be looking for a wedding dress, maybe a Mother of a Bride, Graduation ceremony, 21st / 80th Birthday where the lady is looking for a nice gúna, Wedding Anniversary, a Teacher looking to be styled as her class makes their Communion / Confirmation, An Organizer of a big Charity event / ball that would like to look her best for the event, a Sportsperson who has an important event / ceremony coming up and so on......
So right now, I'm looking to cast these women - as I mentioned there, someone who speaks Irish & has an important occasion/ceremony coming up either this year or next year. Of course, someone that has a good personality too.
Anyone interested and looking for more information, can email firstname.lastname@example.org for the attention of Fiona Ní Chéirín.
Go raibh maith agat,
