€2 Weekly Lotto – the Backbone of our Club Finances:
As the Weekly Update will be taking a break soon – we are taking this opportunity in the last one or two issues to once again promote our €2 Weekly lotto fundraising campaign. Don’t forget there are plenty of locations around town where you can purchase your €2 ticket (see list of places below) or why not make life really easy and do it all on-line.
The €2 Weekly lotto is an integral part of the Club Finances - it is an ongoing fundraising campaign which requires a huge amount of commitment from its dedicated committee – who have the whole operation down to a fine art. Total monies raised this year (2016), to date is €25,135 (up to last week). Prize money paid out is exactly €10,000 (one jackpot win of €6,200 and €3,800 in weekly consolation prizes).
Like all dwellings in Kinsale and indeed around the country, Kinsale GAA Club has bills to pay – ESB, Water, Refuse Collection, any works/repairs required at the grounds on Bandon Road etc. The club also incurs other expenses, for example, when you see things like “this course is free to all coaches” or watch on as over 100 of our underage boys and girls get presented with their shiny new medals, when you see the Advertising Boards/Posters around the town promoting the club or a Fundraising Campaign, congratulating one of our teams; - these are just some examples of where the €2 weekly lotto comes into play. This on-going fundraiser is like the Weekly Wage of Kinsale GAA Club – keeping our day to day expenses in check, in a word keeping the club running. And even more crucial, when we fundraise for our Club Development Project – it ensures that all monies raised can go directly to the Club Development Finances.
With usual Fundraising Campaigns – there is the big push and hard work for a couple of weeks – but then the campaign ends. However with the €2 Weekly Lotto it’s an on-going campaign (the hint is in the title :-)! And so it requires huge dedication from those running it – John Maloney, Eoin O Neill, Joe Coughlan and Declan O Sullivan and David Coughlan who also give a hand every week. A sincere thank you must go to each and every one of these gentlemen for their continued efforts for Kinsale GAA Club.
So thank you all for buying your lotto tickets every week – you have raised an incredible €25,135 alone this year. Keep buying those tickets, the jackpot is €4,400 currently – wouldn’t that be ‘a nice tidy sum to win’ !!!

Cork – Big Congratulations - Orla Finn – you’re alegend
Huge congratulations to Orla and the Cork Seniors who were crowned Senior All-Ireland Football Champions for the 6th time last Sunday. What a fantastic achievement.
For Orla having won her 6th All-Ireland medal with Cork it was then down to the more serious business of winning a County Title with her Kinsale Junior Team-mates last Tuesday night in Mourneabbey. With the County secured - the Munster Junior Club Quarter Finals await tomorrow Saturday for the Junior Ladies, and the West Cork Senior team of which Orla is a member are playing in their Senior County Semi-Final on Sunday afternoon. However, because there are a few hours to spare before the Senior County! Orla is coming along to our Club Family Morning to meet everyone. I’m feel tired typing about all these games!!! Is there no end to this young lady’s dedication and loyalty. Well Done Orla.
TG4 Feature on Orla Finn:
Have a look at this – It’s a feature on Orla Finn and it last just three mins. The part on Orla starts at about 5.50 mins into the video.
Club Family Morning
Our Newly Crowned Junior A County Champions will be there showing off their Cup! Come up to the pitch on Sunday to congratulate and show your support for our heroic Junior Ladies Football Team
11am to 1pm approx. at the Main Pitch on Bandon Road.
With Very Special Guests – both of whom are Inter-County Players:
Our very own exceptional hero Orla Finn
Goalkeeper extraordinaire Anthony Nash
Come along and meet these GAA icons who will be spending the morning with us.
Everyone is very welcome at the GAA Pitch to enjoy Cakes/Buns, Sandwiches, Tea/Coffee – all free!!
U6 to U10 - Mini Hurling & Football Games for Girls and Boys
U11 to Minor U18 – Hurling & Football Crossbar Challenge & Target Practicewith Anthony Nash.
Bucket Collection in aid of The Ciara O Brien Trust will be in operation throughout the morning
We would encourage everyone to please give what they can to support Ciara.
Details for Family Morning:
Both boys (U6 to U10) and girls (U6 to U10) are welcome to take part on the day –mini-matches will be organised amongst their groups that will consist of 20 mins Hurling/Camogie and 20 mins Football approx. Therefore, all children must bring their Helmets, Hurleys, Mouth Guards and should also wear Shin Guards. (Please see Schedule of matches at the end of this email).
(Tip: Please tell your child to keep their Mouth Guard in their Sock when they are not using it! It won’t get lost then!)
We have a fantastic line up of Guests of Honour this year with Orla Finn and Anthony Nash both coming along to spend the morning with us (as detailed above). Orla and Anthony will meet and greet with all the children and parents on the day and will present a small token to each of the children as the teams finish their matches. Each team and their coaches will also have a photo taken with our special guests, so if your child has a Kinsale top, don’t forget to wear it, or something Blue, if possible, is perfect too!
Our older Underage Players (U11s - U18s) and Coaches, will also meet our guests and have photos taken – plus Crossbar Challenge and Target Practice with Anthony Nash awaits!!! Bring/Wear your club tops where possible – thank you.
As per last year the Marquee will be up and we will be serving Tea/Coffee, Drinks, Cakes, Buns and Sandwiches from here. In keeping with tradition all refreshments are provided free of charge during the Club Family Morning :-). The Marquee will be open for business from approximately 11.20am!!
To this end we are asking people, if at all possible, to please bring along a donation of Cakes, Buns, Sandwiches, a couple of packets of biscuits! Any and all food donations on the morning would really be greatly appreciated – Donations of food can be dropped off for 11am if possible. (don’t forget to collect your plates etc afterwards!!).
The Family Morning will go ahead in whatever weather conditions are thrown at us - last year the torrential downpours didn’t dampen the spirits in the slightest and all 200+ adults and children who came along had an absolutely great time. Bring the wellies, rain coats, warm jumpers and umbrella’s – but hopefully this year we will get some dry weather – we won’t push it and hope for Sun – just dry weather please would be brill!
(Our preference is to go ahead regardless - it will only be cancelled in the case of extreme weather conditions – e.g. Thunder and Lightning, a Hurricane!!!!).
As There will be a very large volume of people (children and adults) at the GAA Pitch for this event and in the interest of Public Safety (within the grounds and on the road outside) – we will be directing everybody to park in ‘Seanie’s Field’ – there will be stewards on the road to direct you. The entrance to the field is just below Sean O Callaghan’s house, as you go around the corner, on the right as you’re coming from Kinsale. There is pedestrian access to the main pitch from this lower field.
Again in the interest of safety for all, we would ask everybody to be mindful on the 2nd of October when driving to and from the pitch – to take their time and to be patient, as there will be a large of volume of traffic arriving/departing at more or less the same times.
Club Development Draw Ticket Information:
There will be flyers handed out during the morning on the 2nd , which gives details on one of the clubs major fundraisers, the Club Development Draw. If you have any queries/questions – we will be happy to answer them. Tickets will also be available to purchase.
Ciara O Brien Trust:
As mentioned above there will be a ‘Bucket Collection’ throughout the morning in aid of Ciara O Brien. The Ciara O'Brien Trust was set up to help and support Ciara after a tragic accident in 2015 left Ciara paralyzed from the waist down. The O’ Brien Family are heavily involved with Kinsale GAA Club and have been for many years (Coaching/Admin and playing Hurling and Football). We are asking everyone to please give as much as they can to help support Ciara. The Buckets will be located at a few different points throughout the top part of the pitch. Many thanks in advance for your kind support. Please click on the link below to go to The Ciara O Brien Trust Facebook page.
There will be Face Painting for all the children throughout the morning :-)
· We hope you will be able to come along and enjoy this Family Morning with us – we look forward to seeing you all there – fingers and toes crossed for dry weather!!!

Junior B Football League Semi-Final submitted by Brian Murphy
Kinsale played Valley Rovers at home in the semi-final of the Junior B football championship on a lovely autumn night last Wednesday week. Cheered on by a boisterous crowd Kinsale made a great start with a goal by Conan Dillon. After an action packed 1st half Kinsale led 1-6 to 2-2 at half time. The 2nd half provided a ding dong battle with the lead constantly changing hands. However Valleys struck the killer blows in the last 10 minutes scoring 2 goals and won on a score line of 4-9 to 1-11. Kinsale had 28 players togged out on the night and would like to thank all the players who made themselves available at such short notice.
Why not go along and support the lads in this semi-final – a great build up before the All-Ireland Final later – you’ll be home in plenty of time!!
Underage Boys – Please support our young players at their various upcoming fixtures – they are the future of the club!!

Recent Hurling and Football Games:
Kinsale players played Watergrasshill in hurling and Shamrocks in football over the last 2 Sundays.
While conditions were not ideal for either game Kinsale battled on regardless. There were excellent performances in all areas and the improvements the players have made in the last year have been excellent.
We are now finished the U10 league and would like to thank all the parents and supporters for coming to our games.

Ladies/Girls Football - Junior, Under 21, Minor andUnderage:
Junior A Ladies – County Champions 2016
Kinsale V Dromtarriffe Final Score 4-17 to 1-14
Anyone in Mourneabbey last Tuesday night (27th Oct) were treated to an absolutely amazing performance by our Junior Ladies. Within 2/3 mins they had their first score on the board and it went on from there. Relentless in their pursuit of this County Title - nothing was left to chance – with perfect passing and movement of the ball – they left Dromtarriffe reeling.
Dromtarriffe to be fair fought back hard and picked off some very good hard earned points but Kinsale were having none of it and kept the pressure up to extend their lead. Dromtarriffe had a good spell early in the second half but again Kinsale rallied, stepped up another gear and you just got the sense that this was going to be Kinsale’s night - there was no way this County Title was going anywhere but back to Kinsale!
The only down-side was that it was on so late (on a school night!) and that more people, especially our younger underage boys and girls didn’t get to see this outstanding display of football, determination and team work.
A great speech, from the heart, by Captain Aisling Judge finished off a perfect night. A very proud occasion for everyone in Kinsale GAA Club.
Next year will see this team compete at Intermediate level – I’m sure the other teams currently at Intermediate level are not looking forward one bit to Kinsale joining their ranks:-)
Well done to the entire panel again, to the coaches and mentors - Chionn tSáile Abú. See below the full Junior Ladies panel.

Additional Information – New TG4 Show:
I'm emailing from Red Pepper Productions in Dublin & we're currently in pre-production with a new TG4 Fashion series.
Would it be possible to circulate the information below amongst any of your Irish speaking players.
The show is called Gléasta chun Féasta. The premise of the show features a resident panel, who consist of one Fashion Stylist + one Designer. Each week they'll be joined by a 'Guest Designer' who could work in any creative field such as Photography, Jewellery, Painting, etc.
There will be one contestant (one female) on the show each week who is looking to be styled for a big event they've coming up - This could be a Bride to Be looking for a wedding dress, maybe a Mother of a Bride, Graduation ceremony, 21st / 80th Birthday where the lady is looking for a nice gúna, Wedding Anniversary, a Teacher looking to be styled as her class makes their Communion / Confirmation, An Organizer of a big Charity event / ball that would like to look her best for the event, a Sportsperson who has an important event / ceremony coming up and so on......
So right now, I'm looking to cast these women - as I mentioned there, someone who speaks Irish & has an important occasion/ceremony coming up either this year or next year. Of course, someone that has a good personality too.
Anyone interested and looking for more information, can email email@example.com for the attention of Fiona Ní Chéirín.
Go raibh maith agat,
